In this village, when each member gets married, the girl will accept the man into their household as a part of the woman’s family. When the couple has a child, the child will observe the mother’s ghost, which is the equivalent of using the last name of his or her mom. For example, if the mother is an Ah Ye then the child, too, will be Ah Ye. The father’s ghost heritage does not matter because once he married; his child will have to observe the mom’s side of ghosts. Unlike countries today, the village has a matriarchal system. Women are seen as more important because they give birth to children.
